Title: what is this unattached  rubber hose???

i was looking under the bonnet this afternoon when i see this unattached rubber hose. it was just at the back of the plenum. i started the engine and left it for 15 mins then had a look, nothing came out of it, under the car i could see water dripping off the gearbox.  and my expansion tank has lost about 3/4 of its water.could this be related to the unattached hose.

looks like the gearbox breather pipe, is yours an auto?

i couldnt tell how long it is but was very dry, and check oil level came on a while after too, cant see any loose pipes anywhere,

do you think the loss of water is the hbv then, i cant get my hand down far enough to feel where its leaking but its coming from the back somewhere.

thanks gents. another job to add to the list.  good job i went back to work today, some money coming in to pay for it all now lol
