Title: Steering Idler Arm
Post by: Pitchfork on 07 March 2008, 12:29:06
MOT failure today on above at 136K miles
Should this be expected?
New one cost £65 from main dealer - is this excessive?
Waiting to fit it & have a re-tst

Its quite common - check you're track rods as well, then get the wheel alignment done by someone like WheelsInMotion

DIY job with sockets and crowbar + torque wrench...

(someone beat me to it on the ebay ;-) :o

Idler does wear.  £65 is expensive, sure mine were about £30 fro autovaux (about 2-3yrs ago now though)

Well I popped out to Dealer, bought it at £65, garage fitted for £20 & no re-test charge despite the car having done an additional 20 miles since it failed, so I'm content

P.S. Most of the rubber lining had worn away, the remainder split & cracked - they reckoned the flood in July was the cause of it seizing up

He's an extremely good mechanic who knows that he will get all 3 of our cars to service/ repair. Worth his weight in gold!
