I was having my tyres re balanced today when I noticed a spring about 3 inches long hanging down behind the read brake disk on the drivers side. I couldnt see if it was supposed to be there or what it should be connected to if anything. I was thinking maybe it has just hooked on there after being thrown up from the ground...? Any ideas?
Also the guy said my passenger side rear shock was leaking, you could see fluid on the outside and the other side is in a similar condition. How much is a pair of self adjusting shocks on trade club compared to standards? Is it worth keeping? Also do you think I should change the springs aswell?
Cheers,
Richard

The spring is possibly (and I can't stress that enough, I'm awaiting someone who knows ;) ) one that attaches to the backplate. Possibly. (It's 3am and my mind isn't firing on all six...)

Have a look at the read disc/shoe maintenance guide adn you will see where teh spring should be....
Its the handbrake retrun spring and pretty important.
Rear shocks are about 70 each plus vat (I think)
You could fit standard ones and do away with the self leveling.

Thanks guys, that is definitely it! I will have a look tomorrow and see if I can hook it back on. What exactly does it do? I cant say I have noticed any issues with brakes or handbrake... I will also check the other side I dont remember seeing one there either...
£70 each is not too bad for shocks, is that retail or TC? Would it be worth replacing springs at same time?
Cheers,
Richard

That price is trade club and if you dont have a card then I am sure we can work something out...exact price is 64.88+VAT
The return spring does exactly that, it ensures that when the hand brake is released that the operating lever is slid fully back, they also have a secondary role of retaining the hand brake cable!
I would only change the springs if they are broken.
