Title: Differences in Estate Load Cover over the years?
Post by: The Doctor on 10 March 2008, 19:27:33
I'm sure there were differences over the years, but does anyone know if they are all different or are mini-facelift and facelift ones the same?

I'm told original and mini-facelift are different, MF being longer by an inch or so.

I need one for a facelift see.

Cheers

Yes, i was going to hazard a guess also;

prefacelift & mini-facelift are the same?

Facelift is completely different.

Good luck in your search....i think they also came in different colours as well, which may make your search more enjoyable  ;D

I found an ebay seller with a cover that came from a mini facelift estate (solid headrests), he said it didnt fit his 97 original model, it was an inch or so too little in the width.

so it suggests that pre-facelift and mini facelift are NOT the same.

Hi, Been down that road when i bought my facelift elite a few months ago. I got one from e-bay which came off a 98 cdx and it didn't fit. The support bars were a different length and the small plastic cogs which run in the track were a different form. As these facelift loadcovers are rare i tried to modify the length of the support bars at work, not realising the difference in the cogs until i tried to fit it! Eventually got the right one from e-bay at a bargain price of £14-99. I have seen some advertised on e-bay saying they will fit all models, but they wont. My advise is to keep looking and if you do see one check that the car it came from is definately a facelift model. I have got the cover, minus support bars if anyone needs one.

Ah, now I remember it was you that had that problem robbo! Glad you got it sorted (cheaply!).

So we have successfully concluded that every load cover in the omega series is different! Brill!  :y

I would still like to know, what do people do with them!?!

Facelift asside, they changed the gears on the end of the rods on the rear covers from straight cut to skew gears....so look at your rails in the boot to find out which type you need.

there's a change in the entire system during the mini facelift period...

I've had 2 mini-F elite estates, with 2 totally, and i MEAN totally, different load cover designs...

not only is the material different in quality/feel, but the latter version has a much more sensible arrangement when it comes to removing it...

the earlier version has to be pulled all the way back, then the runners unclip DOWNWARDS ...   sort of...   and out... there'sa small red clip that is SUPPOSED to retain the rods and their cogs in the runner track part that remoes... but it often doesn't...

the latter version has a system which removes upwards complete with a section of the trim as well as the runners... , and seems better designed in terms of keeping itself together....

however the load cover material itself feels nastier than the earlier one. and doesn't scrub up as nicely....
and is looser in general, rattles more and is mildly annoying on anything rougher than new tarmac motorway... (like the M6 Toll.... =nice... M40 white top  section = nasty )

Yes, just realised that the mini facelift estate I have is indeed different load cover wise to the pre mini facelift!! Different and much easier way to open the clips and so on...p.s. if anyone wants a mini facelift load cover...I have one here for sale! :)
