Post by: Cav9_4 on 01 March 2008, 23:03:30
Hi,had fault codes 15,31 and 73 on my 1997 2.5 v6,replaced coolant temp sensor which was the 15,replaced air flow meter with a known good one which leaves the 31,is it possible crank sensor has failed? i know this shows when reading codes without engine running, how much would a replacement sensor be? any help/adviced appreciated as getting deserate, she's been off road since mid november and missing driving it!! just can't keep using wifes pug 106!....Wayne

You haven't left any connectors off have you?

I left the ICV connector off and got a whole list of codes and the EML light was constantly on, as soon as I plugged the forgotten connector in the codes and EML light disappeared :-[

31 indicates an in-correct signal.....so henc eits in-conclusive.

Does it start if you apply a small amount of throttle?

Thanks Daz for reply, double checked all connections everything is plugged in and also checked if there're 'home'.Mark, doesn't start at all, only time it did fire up was when i wanted something out of the Omega and needed to get into the boot so i connected jump leads to our other car and thought i'd just try it.It started and i ran it for around 30 mins till she was warm, switched off again, she did restart, tried again following morning and back to square one, don't know if that points to anything

Just tried your suggestion of light throttle, also just changed fuel pump relay and checked fuse, still no go,when cranking the eml does go out,is this normal anyway?

Should be fine.....and if it doesn't do the trick get it on ebay to recover your costs.

Make sure you route the wires as per the maintenance guide, makes it much easier to fit and keeps the wire away from the hot bits.

Did you check for codes with the engine running? Were they the same if you did?

I bought one recently £26+vat   is it normal to have to remove p/steering pump to get access to fit, or is there an easier method.

Assuming you're talking about your 2.2, you can access it from the
top by removing the exhaust heatshield and the oil dipstick tube.
You'll find it about 2" forward of the dipstick tube. It's still a bit
tight, so you will need a universal joint or flexible drive for your
1/4" drive socket.

Don't forget to plug the dipstick tube hole with something before
you start removing the sensor, or Murphy's Law states that the
bolt will drop down the hole and into the crankcase.  :)
