Title: Replacing Cam sensor
Post by: GLS20 on 23 February 2008, 19:30:30
I've learn't that I need a new cam sensor, I've looked in the Haynes manual and can't see anything in it for replacing the sensor. Is it difficult to change the part on a 99 plate 2.0 16v? if not how do I change the part or is it worth take the car down to my local garage?

Thanks

Easy mate,

Plug cover off (Black strip with 'Ecotec' on it) Aux belt off, cable tray off, cambelt cover off then the cam sensor just unbolts, pull out, unplug and fit new sensor and reassemble.

I'm sure someone will add to this if i've missed anything.

It's dead centre at the top between the two cam sprockets. Will try and find a pic

Hi GLS20, the trick when tackling anything on a car is to be methodical.
Make your you do it slowly but surely, Do one thing at a time making sure that all the bolts/screws that came off with that part stay with it. (some bolts only differ in length)
Try to do things in order then it really is a case of re-assembling in Reverse order.
I know i was a bit nervous when i replaced my cambelt, tensioners, water pump etc...
I think if it was'nt for the fact that i had 40 plus people around (Cambelt Party 23rd Feb 08) to advice and help me, i would still be doing it today. Thanks again guys.
Hope this helps you mate
