Hi,
Made a start getting bits n pieces done to my Omega. Air filter and fuel filter changed and both drainage holes below windscreen cleared. Problem now is that I can't get the oil filter housing to come free, can't get my hand in enough to grip it and I can't get my filterr removal tool in either.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Iain

Have a look at this maintenance guide, is yours the same filter as the one shown. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1164549800 Mine is the same as this and you need a 36mm socket to get the filter undone, I believe they may differ though depending on year but not sure.
You really need the socket with an extension to get in there. I was lucky I borrowed one from my neighbour as my socket set didn't go to that size, it's a big one.

Dont use a filter wrench/strap!
Earlier type, 13mm spanner on top to remove cap. Later type 36mm socket, undoes the entire cap.

Hi Iain,
I had the same problem with mine.
It'll be worth your while getting a low-profile 36mm hexagon socket, which is usually available from good motor factors.
Alternatively, go to www.bennetts.com
Browse 'Laser specialist service tools' type-in 'oil filter socket' and search. The socket you require has their stock no. SX114, priced at £9.35, (probably plus p&p), but worth every penny!
Let us know how you get on - good luck!

I bought a 36mm high impact (as it has a proper 6 sided face) socket from Halfords. About £7 - 8 iirc...

Thanks for the replys,
Slight problem, the socket housing at the top of the oil housing is missing lol, so can't use a socket, looks like its been broken off, so its either going to be, use a filter wrench and risk destroying it, or get a new/scrappy one and destroy it

It that case it will be friggin tight, as some arsewipe mechanic has tightened it to within an inch of its life >:(

Whatever, you'll need a new cap.

mine had the same problem when i got it, hex head gone off it and the cap was tight as f**k, i had to use a filter chain and i had to put sand paper between the cap and the chain for more friction cos the chain kept slipping on the plastic >:( >:(.
Cap came off with a lot of cussin and new onefitted :y
hope it helps,

Hi Iain,
Now you can see why the low profile-type socket that I suggested has the smaller 3/8 square drive.
The filter-top doesn't need to be 'murdered-up' tight - I'm not sure what the torque-setting is, just tighten it sensibly and you should have no problems here. Halfords may also stock the said socket.

From memory, its something like 10Nm...
-
its 25Nm, its stamped on the hex head
-
Guess its something else to add to my shopping list ::)

Does anyone know if part no 93171524 is the correct one for the oil filter housing head?

Hello Iain,
I was told that was the part no. by my Vx dealer so I purchased one (£9.55+vat) only to find it was the wrong part.
After I made them accept it as a return (they made the balls up!) they ordered part no. 90542605 (£22.15+vat) and that was the correct part.
Hope that helps - I changed mine in April 07.

Hi Iain,
This is the state mine was in when I bought the car. The large "nut" was completely gone and a rather unhealthy chip out the side of it.

They sent me a new one with filter - but it was wrong!
This is the wrong part number 93171524 - it looks very similar but is smaller in diameter and shorter so doesn't fit.

Hope that is some help to you
