Saloon? Remove the plastic trim at the back edge of the boot & you'll find a square-ish plug with all the connections you need inc a permanent 12V supply for a caravan ..... you have to say that quietly cos some here are offended by the C word NB if you use this plug the brake light connection is fed via a trailer brake check 'relay' that lives above the driver's feet of earlier cars such as yours. Either buy the 'relay' ... about £17, short out the terminals of the realy base or just take the supply as normal from a brake light.
The 'proper' trailer wiring loom though from Vauxhall is silly money.
and what effect does it have on the dash display?? thanks
Err? None! :y

cheers mate, towbar is for a boat not a C as you call it...thanks

There are some drain holes that have a grommet in them right at the back, but I drilled next to where the number plate lamp wiring goes & used a number plate wiring grommet from a scrap car.

dont forget audible relay - now a legal requirement if towing owt
You should find that the hole and grommet for the number plate wire is large enough to take your 12n wire as well

Russ, you may need to put a fuse in the fuse box under the steering wheel to give you 12v at the rear :y

have a word with andyc ..member on here .. he can check the car details against his database and get EXACTLY what you need.
I wanted to put a Euro 13 pin system on instead of Uk 12N / 12S .. my stealers said it was not possible ... andy got me the loom - £40 ish (not too bad) and the relay I required for the bulb failure circuits £50 ish :( that hurt ... all from germany in about a week, and helped with the fitting instructions (or rather the lack of them !!)
All went in very nicely eventually, only got to sort out the relay/bulb for the indicators and the "don't work when connected" setup for the park pilot !! - just need a dry weekend that I'm actually at home !!!

How much? Although yours will be around the glove box area - later car than mine - I'm sure it's the same relay as mine :- 90463123
List price £16.50
Net V £14.88 (what ever that means ? :-?)

Nope .. this is a totally different relay, the brake lights, side lights, rearfog light circuits for the trailer socket connect through it, it senses a bulb failure on the trailer and puts it up on the display.

Ah! That one. My loom was adapted from one destined for an Astra odf some kind which had one of those built into it somehow. I gave up with it in the end. :(

connected wiring up everything great....except i cant get brake lights, ive connected just behind the trailer plug... is it easier me taking it off the light cluster?? or shorting the two pins on the relay?? which pins??there is no buzzer in the line..( i wouldn't hear it with the styereo anyway)

I found it easier to take a feed from the light cluster, all worked ok..

As said the loom in the boot relies on you using the trailer brake light check 'relay' which is above the driver's feet in your car. . Either put the relay in & you will monitor your trailer brake lights as well as the car's or bridge the terminals - Black/yellow wires seem to ding a dong (without me looking for my Haynes & the wiring diags ::)) As Weds says though the brake light isn't too far away to take a feed.
