I've never done any tests, but does running the climate all the time eat up a lot of petrol?
I keep reading in magazines etc that it uses considerably more fuel - is this still true, even when on a run and the engine's at 3000 rpm anyway?
-
My 2.2 averages 25% more fuel used when air con is turned on :(
Tho i think the bigger the engine you'll take less of a hit on fuel economy.
I used to have a 3.5L BMW.......that didnt seem to make much difference......just averaged 15mpg all the time ;D

Really!!!!
Yikes, shall I start using the ECO button? ::)
-
Mine doesn't seem to make any difference.
-
My MV6, when I tested was about 1mpg (at the time, 24.8 with eco on, 23.8 with eco off)

You going by the MID AA? ......coz it lies badly.....ive noticed this on mine.....on or off MID says same consumption.....but actually fuel im using is very different.
Tho i just worked it out.....its not 25% its 20%.......maths was never a strong point ::)
How i know is......about town i get 125miles to a tank of lpg.....this drops to 100miles with aircon on.

Wouldn't have thought LPG would be that much different....

No, just going by how many miles I get out of a tank.

In respect to different types of fuel.....i wouldnt have thought it would make any difference either.
Suprised AA doesnt notice much difference.......as i posted earlier.....aircon on smaller engines tend to use more fuel than bigger engines in my experience

The small engined cars I've had (Rover 420 diesel, and 1.6 Focus) didn't show a huge difference with A/C on, maybe 2 or 3 MPG (on cars that did 55/35mpg respectively)

Im suprised why mine uses quite a considerable amount more fuel then with air con on......
Seems normal.....bit of a grunt when i turn it on....then ecu gets the revs back to about 700rpm on idle.
VeccyC used to really overcook the idle speed with a/c on.....bout 600-700 off bout 900rmp with it on!

Don't know if there would be a big differnece between petrol and diesel?
My 2.2dti does 650 to the tank with CC on and 685 with the CC off (I have tested this :-?) this is from full until the first fuel light indication, not a big difference, I did have a Volvo V70 Diesel, did not see a big difference it that either :)

i lose between 2 and 3 MPG with A/C on
