Hi There hope someone can help.
1998 2.5 td saloon elite. Has developed a vibration at about 55 mph that seems to go through car and the gear knob/shift lever on the autobox seems to vibrate as well. Car accellerates out of it at about 60 mph. Fitted new front wishbones and drop links. replaced all 4 tyres and had balancing double checked. Could this be a propshaft problem? On close inspection all looks ok no splits in rubbers no excess play as far as I can tell. Hard to describe but whole car feels as if something is out of balance between 55 and 60. Seems fine at speeds above and below.

sorry cant help you out though on of the boys might be able to point you in the right direction.
have you checked your wheel balancing?

it really does sound like a wheel balancce or tyre problem, try swoping tyres front to rear see if it changes fault,

I was biting my lip so hard i'm bleeding! ::) ::)
But seriously sounds like it might be a propshaft problem. Have a look underneath, might be a bolt on the coupling missing. Also check your diff bolts on the drivers side, should be three big mofo bolts visible. If any are missing its could be that.
Its a start.....

Hi and thanks for all advice.
Been back underneath (luckily have access to two post ramp) and couplings look fine infact not very old and diff bolts all there and secure.
Its an odd one indeed. Damn thing has been up and down so many times got the dreaded low beam/fld vision or what ever it is on the display now. Remember reading on here somewhere someone did something with an elastic band to clear message but cant remember what. Have tried swapping wheels but it is not a wheel wobble it is the whole of the car (including my knob) :o that is vibrating.

Just a thought and something else to check, the exhaust.
Mine was ok (no vibrations) until I had a new exhaust fitted, from cat back. Ever since it's been fitted, and refitted with a new one I get a vibration at tickover, it disappears when driving. It's annoying trying to find it but I did track it down to a worn exhaust rubber mount on the centre section silencer, took it off vibration no so bad. So I replaced it but I still had a slight vibration which is bearable. I also think It could be the cat maybe vibrating, seeing as this all started with an exhaust change.

Go on girls! Give us a laugh ;D ;D
Just wondering if the prop has been damaged whilst having the exhaust changes, has it been used as a fulcrum??
My mate had similar on a 24v Cossie, his cat's honeycomb had bust up, as a temp fix we drilled a the in the cat to prove it, then we drove a screw into the hole to hold it still while he waited for the new cat..

Love your Avatar... brings back some fond memories :y

Hi Dave C Thanks for your help but it is Mick AP who had the exhaust. I have done front wishbones, drop links and tyres. Glad you like the avatar but a little bit concerned about the fond memories it is bringing back......

had a problem like that on my recent meega it was the propshaft in the end that would throw the balance out and cause it to vibrate
good luck

Well, when I was younger, about 13, we visited a place where Emu's ran free within a large compound, the fence was only breast height, so you could stroke / feed them. My late dad (and BEST MATE EVER) thought it was funny to offer them a 2p piece, it's very funny to see an Emu gently take a coin from someones hand and then swallow it, then look for more like it is it's staple diet... I know it could be harmfull, but, bloody hilarious... it's been a private family joke eversince..
