Arghh, Call from the misses can steer the car and battery light on! Worst fear Aux belt snapped. Too late to try to recover it tonight but a question!
As looking from front of car top pully on the left looks to have completely disintegrated leaving just the nut and cover plate! What does this drive and can I get a replacement?
That is also assuming the tangled mess of a belt has done no other damage! No sign of liquid leaking so that looks hopeful!
And hear was me thinking my next post was gonna be photos of the new toy!
Thanks in Advance

Thats the tensioner and you can buy the pulley on its own for about 25 quid.
Dont start it until you have removed all the debris or you risk some being pulled into the cam cover.
-
Think I'm right in saying its the aux belt tensioner...I have a replacement I can send you mate if the pre facelift tensioner is the same as the facelift one...
-
sounds like the tensioner's broke up.
-
And dont forget that the aux belt drives the water pump so dont attempt to drive it home.
-
Pulley very top left is the tensioner pulley .. known for failing :( but a 15 minute job to fix.
Somewhere on the forum is a thread that gives the part number for JUST THE PULLEY ... Vx will try and sell you the whole adjuster as a kit.. you may not need it.. depends if the spindle is damaged.

Cheers all for the response.. Looks like the whole thing has gone so might need the complete kit.. The belt is trully mangled so I am hoping it hasn't done any other damage... Will get it recovered in the morning with any luck and get down to vx to get the parts..
Thanks again.. I will post pics when I get it back!

You wont need the whole lot, yet to see a tensioner fail, only the pulley.
The pulley is not normaly a stock item.....
-
Ah nuts springs to mind!!
Here's hoping my local vx dealer has stock then! Need to get it back on road asap, tis my work horse as well!
Having not fitted one to an omega are there any gotchas I need to look out for when refitting the pulley and belt?
Cheers

If the pre and post facelift tensioner pulleys are the same I can have on in the post to you tomorrow mate?? £10 delivered :)
-
Chris,
Thanks for the offer if I can't get it tomorrow I may well take you up on the very kind offer.
Thanks all for your help to a newbie omega owner!

Pulley change was very easy.... one socket, take the strain agsinst the spring.. this slackens the belt to remove it. Then undo the nut ... replace pulley do up .. I think it was 35 Nm torque, then against the spring to refit belt... job done :)
-
And even easier when there is no belt to remove in the first place lol
-
Its easier with the intake trunking removed.
You do need to remove the bolt that holds the aircon pipe clip in place to fit the new belt.
Look carefuly at the aircon pump for threads of belt trapped around the clutch.
-
Lol.. One less thing to remove makes it quicker right!? ;)
Unless the bit to remove seems to be wrapped round other parts of the engine :(
Thing is I was only yesterday talking to my neighbour (mechanic) about getting him to do the cam belt, aux belt, and full service next weekend..
Me thinks I jinx'ed it! Might have to pull everything forward a few days.
BTW how would one go about getting a Trade Card or can I speak nicely to a member who has one and cross their palm with silver?
