Title: 2003 2.6 Elite Question?
Post by: Drewomega on 12 March 2008, 12:49:23
8-)Hi! I have picked up my 2003 2.6 Elite after my 3.0 Elite drowned. I do not like the interior as much as my 1998 Elite, too plasticky! however, it is immaculate. There is only one niggle, the "radio safe" keeps flashing up. I have tried entering the codes shown in the manual but it will not have it. I have fitted a new battery as well but still the radio comes on ok after reconnecting, only flashing "radio safe" after every couple of seconds or so. Has anybody got any ideas on this? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

sounds like the radio has been replaced from the orginal factory fit.

What headunit is fitted?

Colour or Mono display?

Usually a pairing problem between Headunit on screen on these units.

I was refering to maybe a replacement of the standard factory fit, and someone has not updated the code in the book.

It may have gone faulty and been replaced with an identical unit, but this would have a different code.

As mentioned above, is your display colour or mono?

Colour display. As far as I know everything is original.

I have just had a look at the very comprehensive service/repair history that the previous owner has left me and there is no mention of radio/display unit being changed.

NCDC series radios do not have codes ;)

RADIO SAFE means the radio is in Delivery Mode.  What is worrying is no DISPLAY SAFE, which suggests to me the radio and display may be from defferent pairs. Ouch - if that is the case, the display is toast.

This is what should happen when radio and screen are depaired...

Not sure I'd entrust a dealer to this - it may be toast, but I'd want someone with the ability to us a Tech2 before completely screwing it, and I'm afraid that rules out most dealers/garages...

As I have "radio safe" flashing does it not need depairing and then repairing using the car pass radio/immob codes?

If the radio is in delivery mode, but the screen isn't, the screen is toast. A brick. Useless.

Just downloading your link! How come that the radio, cd player, sat-nav work ok if there is a pairing problem? the steering wheel controls do not work though.

Thanks for that info! Any suggestions as to how to get over this problem?
