Have uneven idle , don't think its firing on all cylinders.
White with a slight tint of blue smoke. (Lots).
Starts first time though. Cuts out when warm or put in gear from idle.
All this came about driving on motorway about 70ish pulled up and the engine stopped. Got it going again and home.
Smoke is coming from dipstick hole and oil filler cap.
Changed plugs and leads. Recently had cam sensor changed.
Had the car about 2 years and the car has always used alot of oil.
Any ideas please.
Sorry not brilliant with cars.
Thanks in advance.

Done paper clip test getting 0110 and 0130 any ideas please.

Your codes are...
Switch over valve solenoid
Switch over valve 2
Unfortunately I don't know the solution to these codes. Poor idle is often caused from a clogged or dirty Idle Control Valve (ICV). There is a guide in the maintenance section on how to take it off and clean it, along with the breathers. It is an easy job so there would be no harm in trying.
Out of curiosity is there any mayo on the filler cap and lots of bubbling and smoke in the expansion tank?
-
Rickyboy thanks for replying.
No i have no air bubbles in expansion tank or mayo on dipstick or fillercap. Lots of white smoke from tail pipe and a hole in the back box exhaust.
the fault codes i have are 0110 and 0130 ather the engine stops.
Which say are Air intake temparture sensor and heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor HEGO
Simtec 56.5 code chart (Pcodes).
Thanks

Is this the end of the road for my omega??

I'd say it would probably be worth doing a compression test If there's lots of smoke from the breathers it does tend to point to a piston ring failure IMHO. :'(

out of intrest whats its history / mileage?

Sorry about that, I've looked at 1110 and 1130 instead - excuse my idiocy! :D :-[
Symptoms do look like they're weighing towards something serious. Although fault codes don't.

Hi all thanks for the help.
The car has done 114500 miles.
Brought it for £1300 two years ago.
I loved the shape of these cars and went ahead and brought one.
But inhine sight after reading all the negative comments about these cars on various forums on the net wished i hadn't.
I've gone through 2 lots of front tyres. Front wishbones, camsensor, lots of oil and heavy fuel consumpsion.
Work i know needs doing are Cambelt kit and timing belt and now this.
I had a 2.0 SRI cavaliar that done 323000 miles with very few problems.
Yes this car will be laid to rest before its time because of bad Mechanical design / design faults.

Beg to differ ..... :(
The car is well designed, and the engine is almost indestructable PROVIDING basic servicing is carried out correctly. 99% of the problems can be attributed to a poor servicing history. There are many members on the forum who have cars with tremendous mileage and no problems... simply because they do the basics properly.
Don't blame the car for the failings of the "human" owners.

Not a huge mileage. :-/ However, if you've had heavy oil consumption maybe it does have issues. What is the service history like?
I agree with Entwood. These cars aren't without their niggles, but the major components are bomb-proof and capable of high mileages if cared for.

Agreed, these cars can definitely stack up the mileage if well maintained. I've put a donor engine that already had 170,000 on the clock when I bought it. Thousands of miles later and it's still going without problems.
Most of the negative comments I've heard relating to omegas is down to the electrical side of it (masses of sensors). What you have to remember is these sensors are there for a reason and if you don't ignore the EML light and get the problem sorted your engine can go for years. Other makes VW, Mercedes and BMW are all known for there great reliability. I've driven both VWs and Mercedes for many years and when you do have a problem there never seems to be an EML lit, funny that! I like the fact that when there is something wrong with my car I know about it before it gets expensive.
As of the original post, I wouldn't condemn the car to the grave yet but you'll have to put some effort into fixing it. Get a compression test done to see what state the engine is in. Most obvious thing to get fixed is the exhaust which will certainly not be helping the O2 sensor fault. Get the idle valve cleaned as well, these tasks won't cost you much to do either. Check the wiring to the injectors for any splits or loose wires, the wiring can be very brittle in this area and will definitely cause misfiring.
