Touched upon it in a thread just now but thought I'd raise separately:
Do the later V6 migs come with a 5sp auto? Just wondering if the 5spd would bolt up to the earlier engines to replace the frankly rubbish 4spd units?
Basing the querey on the fact that with hondas, parts from individual series' of engines are largely interchangable, leading to all manner of interesting hybrids.
Might also solve the thrust washer problem..

Only very few of the last Omegas had 5 speed boxes. Not sure any UK models did.
Retro fitting would likely be difficult because the drive electronics, and thus the ECU, loom and connectors, and possibly the communication with other modules in the car would be different.
I don't think the 4 speed is too bad, TBH.

Can`t agree I`m afraid:
I`ve driven many auto-trans cars over the years and TBH the AR25 isn`t bad at all....provided the trans-fluid is ok and car`s engine is working as it should, the gear-shifts are 'tight', with appropriate downshifts (up hills etc.) and the >45 mph. T-C lockup is quite efficient.
As with any mechanism; lack of servicing and harsh treatment can take it`s toll but overall I`ve found it to be very good indeed.
I recently drove my Father`s 'newish' Ford Mondeo auto. and I found that transmission`s performance to be a pale-shadow of the Omega`s auto-box performance.

perhaps it's just what I'm used to, the porsche designed unit in my passat, and the BMW unit in the RR and the old 530i are all far superior, but then I suppose to be fair, they're also all newer.
Just have to adjust to the new box I guess! :y

Always worth making sure you have the latest gearbox software upgrade, and the oil and filters don't need changing.

Thanks I'll look into the software side of things. Filters shouldn't need changing because it had a full overhaul about 2k miles ago.

software upgrade makes loads of difference got my done upto level 9 :y

Likewise (from version 3 to version 8 (for my ECU)) I couldn't believe the change.
Different car! :y

I have mine at version 10 and it is a most agreeable transmission, far less snatchy than my old Volvo S90's autobox. As far as I know the AR boxes were also fitted to BMW 5 series under the 4L60E badge name. Good enough for BMW as well apparantly. My advice, keep the fluid and filter on regular changes (40K miles) and all will be well.
