Title: ok not good........update!
Post by: Marie on 22 March 2008, 10:51:19
ok well the weather is positively c**p and cant get out to work on my motor or wash it.

so while i was out i though sod it ill run the car through the car wash.
big mistake......(i dont normally do it .....and you can tell me off later)

anyhow in the car wash i could hear running / dripping water inside the car. looked to see if one of the windows were open.....No. then moved the shopping in the foot well. to find yes you guessed it. water running in behind the glove box. gutted.

ok its never done it before. is it just something as simple as the drain is bloked???????.....is their a drain on the passenger side if so how do i get to it.  OR is it something worse?

i have tried to search for this problem already but the search on OOF doent seam to want to work for me. :(

i am about ready to  :'( :'( :'( this car is pushin me to my limits. if i mention the snags to the hubby he gets pi**ed cos its one thing after another.
how much more money am i going to have to put into this car????

HELP!!!!!

i told him. he doesnt understand how if the scuttle is bloked how it gets into the car?

hes told me to get out their and fix it! but its blowing a gale. he said he dont care! fix it!

what he doent know is i need to clean the breathers and replace the cam cover gasket too. thats why i am waiting for a good spell in the weather. he does know that i need to change the engine oil which is my cover as to why i am out with the car for so long! ;D ;D ;D ;D their are a few other little jobs i am going to do to. like grease the doors!

the only reason i got caught out Mark by the leak was cos he was cleaning out the drians and i had assumed he had done the scuttle........obviously not! :( >:(

ok i recon its bloked ! easy fix will take the camara out with me.

suppose if i had not used the car wash i wouldnt of figured out that the scuttle was bloked.

as soon as i have finished my paperwork ill be all over it like a rash!
quick question on a 2ltr the only spares needed todo the cam cover gasket is the cam cover gasket.

see thats where the weekly checks i always tend to miss bits. someone needs to make up a weekly check list of what i should be checkin.

Weekly check - my starter for ten is POWER

Petrol (is there enough to get you over the weekend and to and from work on Monday)
Oil
Water (coolant level and washer bottle)
Electrics (are all your lights working, could also include periodic check of alternator belts)
Rubber (all 5 tyre pressures and any obvious signs of distress)

... and then all fluids like brake hydraulics, ATF etc

I do the above every day, of course, without fail  ;)

You also need O rings for the camcover and a tube of BLACK sealant.
Keep spare gaskets for the throttlebody and IACV in stock, then theres no excuse for not cleaning the throttle body or having idling problems.

Why the black sealant when i done mine i didnt use any and haven't had any leaks and that was about 3 years ago and using a unipart gasket.  Im not sayin you shouldn't or dont have to just wondering if i done something wrong.

In Best Pantomime Voice...

Oh Yes It Is.

You need a smear at the corners of the 'D's and either side of the front bearing caps where the seal has to transition from the head to the bearing cap.

it only comes out in nice weather - its a beast in the dry, but turns into a rather nasty monster in the wet.  It has already tried to hurt me (and succeeded  :-[).

Quicker if you're bouncing off the rev limiter all the way, perhaps. :o

It underestimates the A34 I think.

I have a tube of sealant, btw. Can't do the delivery service as Oro is coming round for a cam cover gasket change tomorrow.

OK so this will be the 3rd time i have tried to post this. first time my son turn the computer off. second time the computer turned it self off.

any how 0800 this morning i was out on the car to check on the scuttle

well you were right guys the scuttle was bloked.
the picture says it all.

the easyest way to get the water out of their was you suck it out...YUCk
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p313/marieroffey/blokedscuttle2.jpg)

ok so now i got my arm in there ....it just fitted. and got out all the rotten dead leaves.

ran some clean water through the scuttle to wash it out and hey presto a cleaner scuttle.

And the moral of this story is never asume the hubby has done something. always double check that it has been done. ;D ;D ;D ;D
OR Better still do it yourself in the first place then you know that it has defo been done. ;D ;D ;D

cos of the weather this and clean out the breathers is al i ahve been able to do as it started to rain on me.  :'( :'(

tomorrow check the gearbox level and do an oil change. thats if the weather holds out for me.

A Job well done Marie :y
Looks like you have a little more room to do the Scuttle Drain on a 2.0...
On a 2.5 and 3.0 you have the Pollen Filter to get your arm past, which is a bit of a struggle (I felt like James Herriott ;D) plus the rubber drain isn't in the same place its more to the front at the bottom if that makes any sense...
Unless I am looking at your picture wrong... :-?

They are a fiver + VAT for prefacelift ones on TC, so worth just renewing (should be changed annually anyway).

You've done well in one morning to do that and the breathers, especially in the cold.

How long does cleaning the breathers out on a V6 take?

I find a VAX is excellent for emptying the scuttle area

When I did mine the grommet pushed out of the bottom and I didn't replace it. No chance of blockage now, and no problems with water from below. Confine it to the dustbin, Marie. (Or your diddy box).

I work from the drain end.....under the wheel arch on early cars, in the engine bay on later ones.

On the V6, access is improved to the engine bay one by removing the oil filler, then its dead easy.....poke your finger up it (the scuttle drain!) and pour water into the scuttle to flush it.
