Title: Front Wishbone Price from VX!
Post by: Rich_v6_Estate_Elite on 25 March 2008, 12:45:48
HI All,

Just fallen off my chair just phoned local vx parts dept for price on front wishbones, after having read comments etc and having judder under breaking though pertinent to change anyway.

I recall having read another post where price for wishbones was around £40ish mark..

I just been quoted £236.18 for the Wishbone assembly and that is each!

Is this correct or are they quoting me for everything suspension and I only need the wishbone plus bushes?

Anyone got specific part codes?

If it is that case it is better to do the lot then advise greatly received. Want to preserve my new found love as long as possible!

Thanks in Advance

Richard

The Vx ones are bloody expensive.  (although probably good).   I believe you can buy just the Vx bushes and get them replaced.

Alternatively try somewhere like ByPartsBy who are much much cheaper.

They are MUCH more than that now.  Not sure if they are on TC or not.  I assume the £236 was retail.

Not sure why but I have a big problem, personally, with buying car parts from ebay!

Especially when the price is that much different from retail!

Others on here have used them and I would certainly be giving them a go next time.

Ians,

Thanks for the link.

Think I will be off to the local vx parts dept to look at their pretty pics!

Really concerns me that the vx part is so much more expensive when others can offer it that cheap!

Does the assembly from VX come with more of the suspension config or is  it gold plated  ;)

These are the ones i fitted this weekend http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-FRONT-2-SUSPENSION-WISHBONE-ARMS-LH-RH_W0QQitemZ280210993618QQihZ018QQcategoryZ10404QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262- quality looks ok but i guess it comes down to the longevity of the bush material, but at this price you could buy 8 sets compared to the vx ones you been quoted!!! :y

its the same with any dealership and old cars, its like a nice way of them saying they cant be bothered, no doubt the cheaper parts will not be as good a quality, but for the price diffrence you could 1 pair on the car and 9 spare  ;D

Good write up but remember all bolts must be finally torqed up with the car off axle stands/jacks & sitting on all 4 wheels.  Failure to do this will reult in early failure of bushes.

Probably because they are detering folks from buying them and doing the job theirselves.  They probably sell the bushes alone for £90 and charge £150 + labour to fit them...  that way the dealer gets the labour costs rather that VX getting the profit for a full wishbone and the dealer geting very little mark up!

Just a thought... ba5tards :o

I bought my wishbones from ebay

The powder coating probably ain't VX spec, but i'll worry about that later. Paid my local garage £150 to fit them & my droplinks AND my rear springs

Well just organising my trade club card and membership to the Autobahnstormers website.

I will let you know if it is any cheaper with discount!

Fitted new wishbones April 07, £55 per pair delivered from "Vauxhall Spares Centre" Essex, looked good, fitted without a problem. That was at 116K, just about to go for new M.O.T. (next 2 weeks) with 141k on the clock, 25k of motoring, will the wishbones pass again ?.  :-/ :-/

Wishbones are not TC, so best you can hope is Trade.  Still too expensive, plenty of cheaper alternatives...

WARNING this is not possible on your drive like i tried - you may be able to torque the rear bolt (vertical) but there is not enough room to swing a wrench on the fronts (horizontal) - taking mine to local garage to do on their 4 post lift tomorrow ;)
