Title: Coolent level sensor
Post by: Olympia5776 on 02 April 2008, 23:56:02
"Coolent level" has come up on my display today although level OK and steady. My main dealer says that the sensor on the base of the expansion tank cannot be renewed and the whole tank has to be replaced quoting some ludicrous price off the top of his head.
Is this so ?
Should be able to check out the sensor tomorrow evening .

Your dealer is correct in that the sensor is built into the tank. About £30 IIRC
You might delay replacement by removing the tank and using a mild caustic inside the tank to clean it.

The sensor does pop out the bottom, and if you're lucky, will be a dry joint.  2 out of 3 I've attempted repair on have fixed this way, other was a failed reed switch.
