Engine light on?  Does the EML appear on the dash with the ignition on then turn off when the car is started?  Codes read?

Have you checked for oil in the spark plug wells? May not affect performance but may affect mpg...

How much is it using? What does the mfd say on average mpg?

300 miles might be about right for a 3.0 if you're doing a lot of short journeys.

Right foot action is the prime cause of "eating fuel"  !

Seriously .. if you drasticaly change your driving habits on a single run you will see wildly varying results .. if I drive my 3.2 "sensibly" on a long run ( gentle acceleration, legal speed limits ) I can get low 30's to the gallon  so 300+ to the tank ... as soon as I start to enjoy myself its down to 25 mpg ... if I go daft (  :-/  ) its a low as 18 mpg !!
