Hi,
I wrote some time ago about a mate's facelift 2.0lt auto that had rev surges on bth idle and under load and got some useful replies from davlad, markey-mark and others and a good link from Grumpy on cleaning the icv and breathers. I passed all this on and my mate got this done as well as having new plugs and a new DIS pack. All was well for a few weeks but he says its now playing up again: on idle the revs suddenly just fall and the car stalls or else he'll be driving along and the revs suddenly shoot up , he drops it from D into 3rd and then
back into D and its fine again. The fault is only intermittent but is getting to happen more often . Any ideas guys/girls?
Thanks,
jerry :)

I had a similar episode some years ago, albeit not a Vauxhall. Main Dealer changed engine management control unit and a few other items, but problem came back just like yours. Took it to a local place he had a think about it replaced the thermostat and did bit of cleaning around some sensors. Problem solved.
Main Dealer £170, no result. Local thinker, £7.50, problem solved.

When he cleaned the throttle body, do you know if he made sure the breathers were clear? The pipe in the inlet manifold that the breather hose connects onto from the cam cover was totally blocked on mine - to the point that I had to drill it clear. The two pipes on the side of the throttle body where the water pipes attatch on were also blocked on mine.

He didnt do the work himself but got the garage he bought it off to do it, I passed on to him what the guys on the forum suggested (ie:check and clean icv and breathers) so ,as he seems to trust them, I assume they did so, but I will pass it on to him again. Cheers.
