Title: Tacho source
Post by: hotsawz on 10 April 2008, 13:37:11
Hey guys n’ gals.

Been a while since I’ve been on here but my project omega (which has been off the road for nearly 2 years) is about to be completed and I need a little help.

The model is a 1994 3.0 Elite. I’m fitting an aftermarket tacho which needs connecting to the tacho source. It says in the installation guide that it will either go on the “negative terminal of the coil or on vehicles with electrical ignitions (such as GM, HEL, MSD) it goes on the tacho terminal”. Not being fantastic with electrics this is a little gobledigook to me.

Can anyone offer any help on this please?

I’m sure there will be a few more questions over the weekend (like the innumerable MoT questions that will crop up, i.e., do I need a window demister and windscreen washers to pass) so be prepared for pestering.

Cheers in advance

There's a tacho feed from the ECU which goes to the Omega's dash. My guess is that you could connect it straight to that. It's a light green wire IIRC. Have a look at the wiring diagran and you'll see it.

Cheers for that Kevin. I have the entire loom lose so shouldn't be too difficult to find (he says confidently). What is IIRC?

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, BTW. (By the Way)  :y

If you look in the Haynes manual or similar you'll see the ECU pin number for the RPM signal. Can't remember it at the moment. Looked it up at the weekend to wire up an LPG conversion too.

What a star.

Thanks for the welcome. I used the forum about year or two ago when I started the project. It's nice to know everyone is as helpful, friendly and polite as they were back then.

Cheers for now.

;D Fortunately she is not a subscriber. Otherwise most of us would be dead men, I suspect!

Tacho output appears to be on pin 43 of the Motronic ECU, by the way.
