Title: throttle cable
Post by: Marie on 10 April 2008, 17:35:46
Right ok so i need a replacement for the following reasons:

1: the securing bung has split into 2.
2: the retaining clip no longer works at the throttle end so i wirelocked it.

Is this an easy job?
the hanyes manual states that there are electrics connected to it for my auto box but VX say no...... if their is are they plug and play?

VX has quoted £60 then add the vat. :'( :'(

I noticed a switch under the scuttle just by the bulkhead. Kickdown for the auto. Gearbox I guess.

Oh, and the LPG injectors might be in the way. What muppet mounted them there?  ::)

 ;)

Wouldn`t one of the lads whom break Omega`s here on O.O.F be able to send a 'good' cheap throttle-cable Marie?
`Sure it`d be a lot less than £60!  :y

Hi
Can't you adapt a bicycle brake cable to fit, that's got to be cheaper than £60.

Is an auto's different from a manual's. If one of the Omegas in the scrappies near me is suitable I could send No 1 son down with it, but he doesn't have to be 'back on board' till a week on Sunday.

Cables for a manual don't have the kickdown switch.

Also, its a very easy job to replace, as I found out with mine at the cambelt partay  ;)

I know a manual doesn't but I'm not so sure that an auto does either. The kick-down switch on my Senator was actually under the accelerator pedal & obviously an Omega's isn't. I'd have thought the throttle positioner acted as the kick down switch.

Could you see if they have got one from a 2ltr 16v auto please andy and how much and then we can go from there.  If they haveone at the right price it can wait until your sons back.

Acted on by another cable? Or does the cable 'pass through' the kick down switch?

Thats the one :)

Check the part number tho, I know the 3ltr one I have fitted to my 2.5 is about 5" longer, so it tucks under the scuttle at the rear.  Not sure if the 2ltr is any longer or shorter...

Hi Marie,if you ring this number and speak to either  Henry or Rupert they are the people who run the scrappers called las-jacarandas they might have another omega like yours there with a cable on it.. I have dealt with them before and they are very good. The number is 07706495877.

Your chassis number is on your logbook or you can see it in the lower passenger side of the windscreen. Should look something like this W0L0VBF69W1244216.
Try looking on ebay for the part number.
