I have been thinking over the last few days about a possible engine swap and wonderd what anyone thinks about it. As you know i have a mini facelift elite estate with a 2.5 V6. Now the body work and intirior is in excelent condition and i do love the car, however it has done 170,000 miles and while it runs as sweet as a nut and has a full service history with it the engine is getting no younger and so i got to thinking, i know it would be possible to fit the 6cyl bmw diesel engine, but how much work would be involved in doing so?? The mechanical side of things dont worry me too much but the electrical side does. Would the loom, ecu etc etc need changing. My idea would be to buy a lesser model with the diesel in it and go from there. I have no intentions of getting rid of the meega and the other alternative would be to go the LPG route with a newer engine as and when the time comes for an engine change.
Any ideas and thoughts would be most welcome.
Cheers, Jez

You would need pretty much everything under bonnet, including engine, loom, PAS pump, alternator, battery (bigger on TD), fuel filter housing, radiator, intercooler, ecu, tc and bellhousing from donor. Inside, brake switch, accelerator switch and loom (DBW) and cruise stalk.
Not sure if ABS unit the same, as a minimum will need programming to new config, as would gearbox ecu and mid.

Hmm I wouldn't swap - you could try head off and check the insides - I bet it is OK
LPG would be a better bet
