Title: Bumped my bumper...
Post by: alasdaircantlay on 12 April 2008, 19:24:51
I smacked the back of someone else when they started moving at a set of lights, then decided to stop. I have cracked my bumper and the screenwash bottle pump was loosened when it was driven back into a fan of some type. I took the bumper off this afternoon and there is a big metal bar type thingy which is all bent out of shape. I've tried my best to straighten it to some degree but it doesn't actually go back on properly. Can I get a replacement part? And how important is it to have both the fans in front of the radiator working? Can I get a matching bumper kit too? Sorry for all the questions. Please bear in mind I know hee-haw about cars too... It's a '98 2.5 TD S Estate, in silver.

eBay and the Parts wanted section on the forum are good palces to look

The fans are critical on the TD, as the engine will crack its head if it overheats.  These are the only 2 electric fans for cooling, and also come on with A/C

That certainly is the bit on ebay! Thank you! And I'll have to check the fans are working again as I assume they only come on when the engine is up to temp. I managed to free the one that was not moving but whether it is turning remains to be seen. I assume they're quite easy to get if needs be?

No, they are an utter pig to replace - rad and a/c condensor out.

I have 2 in the garage.

I don't have a/c in my beast so it shouldn't be too bad? Fingers crossed!

any hot Omega mechanics in Glasgow that you know about? There's an Arnild Clark Network Q place right round the corner from me, but they're not cheap! And I'm skint!
