Title: rather Dis Packs
Post by: Markie on 12 April 2008, 19:45:19
Was all set to clean out the Veccy sump today when SWMBO advised lat night her omega was going like a crock of cack...

Ive submitted tonight after grappling with dis pack removal for 3.5 hours.....done a few before so i know what i am doing..

But i`ll be darned if i can get that last dispack bolt out.

What methods do everyone else use for bolt front right of dispack...i think i used a 2" extension before and guess what i can find today  >:(

okay....its out ( 1/2" torx on 2" extension with 1/4" adaptor and tiny ratchet) That final bolt was corroded all the way down it though hence it was harder to get out..

Dilemma time - every dispack i have removed faulty has had significant corrosion ( to the point of splitting)

This one has no corrosion, had a nice clean "Made in Germany" bosche sticker on it - i suspect its not much older than our ownership of the car..However would that corroded bolt suggest theres been a leak on to it?

I have another nearly new dispack and 90% certain its good it same model and "Made in Slovenia" by bosch

Anyone any ideas if this production run would be newer ?

Oh and leads look fine and camcovers bone dry so not really any further forward in pinpointing misfire  :(

Glad to hear you got it out Markie :y

Its not going to hurt trying the known good pack to see if it cures the problem.

Job Done :)
Thank for the input and support !

This was the most problematic of dispacks ive done yet for some reason, perhaps as i had to get it done for tomorrow am - normally i take my time.

Anyway car fired up straight away, no uneven idle, no misfire from cold or in a 0-60 in sports mode.... :-/ so the moral of the story i guess ( so far) is that a dispack can fail even if it looks perfect, they dont need to be rust coated to fail it seems :y

Dropped off at SWMBOs work car park -  No doubt she will find a misfire by the time it returns  >:(

Oh i`ll be reminding her of this for years to come...

SWMBO comes in Friday 10pm - "car is sick" she says - so quick, in the dark-under bonnet check, coolant, oil etc fine so no oil cooler failure or anything untowards....Test drive immediatley tells me its misfiring.

Saturday instead of planned work on Vectra I strip down the breaker omega KNOWING it had new dis pack and it would be same one. Job from start to finish took me 24 hours - rain stopped play yesterday.

MEANTIME - She gets the 3.0 MV6 to play with, now its covered in bloody straw from the stables, she gets dinner bought last night for her by the mechanic, she gets free dis pack, free labour charges, a coolant top up, screen wash top up, oil change, car wash & hoover & polished BEFORE i drop it at her work today ( thus reclaiming the MV6  ;)0 JEEZE she even got a free Magic Tree.....

Beat That Vauxhall  ;D

Her response....."yeah seems fine now thanks hun  :(

Yup - she will be reminded, often and frequently
