Title: Brakelight Switch.
Post by: amigov6 on 11 April 2008, 21:37:39
Sometimes works for weeks then plays up. Ign. on display says brakelight check. Usually changes to outside temp. on first push of the pedal as it should. But it keeps fannying about, if i "give it a twiddle" it works once then stops again. I know the springy bit can stick but is it ok to spray WD40 on it? I've replaced it once but still the same.
    I know it's a relatively small fault but in an accident the ins. implications could be costly.
    Any ideas please? :(

Do the brakelights fail to come on when the warning is displayed? If they do not, switch change.
Bulbs and contacts can cause errors in the reporting system.

It's definately the poxy fricking switch. Ign on Display says brakelight check. Press pedal, still same. When working display changes to outside temp but that only tells you it worked once. Maybe i should buy yet another switch! :o

Wonder if a blast of switch cleaner would cure it, maybe try it on a duff one first to make sure it doesn't melt the bloody thing though.

Ill try anything Cpn. Only a small fault but the legal implications in an accident could cost thousands (which i aint got).
    Such a silly fault! ::)

If your getting a new one anyway, try switch cleaner on the old part.
If it cures it you've got a spare, if it melts it you know not to use it on the one you fitted when it goes dicky.
