Title: Cam Cover Bolts
Post by: amba on 15 April 2008, 10:38:50
I seem to have small ammounts of oil marks around the star bolts that hold down the cam covers,so expect the rubber "o" rings are leaking, but this only seems to be the case on the nearside cover. The actual cover is not leaking ,just the small weeping around the bolts.
On closer inspection the bolts appear to be quite rusted so as it look like a strip down might replace the bolts with new ones to improve appearance.Any idea of part numbers or will they clean up with wirewool/brush.

Personally I would leave it alone if the covers aren't leaking/plug wells dry - you might just end up disturbing the seals and needing to replace them too. .   Spend the time cleaning breathers instead to keep it that way.

I agree with ians, mine are seeping a little from a couple of the bolts but i did my gaskets and o rings a few months ago.
I'm not gonna start messing with it again unless the actual gaskets start to leak again.
