Hi I was just about to start a load of work incl coil/dis pack, breathers etc when the auto gear box started playing up, all gears dots (lights) lit up wouldn't go into "D" really odd.
I sure you guys will have an answer, but i'm wary of working on car and spending any more money.
may have to walk for a while please help

I think its the selecter switch playing up on the box.

Hi
Gear slector switch, quite common. either remove and clean or replace

Yes, selector switch.
Its worth removing it, opening it up and checking it out and clean it first...
-
If you've driven through deep water, ie floods or large puddles, recently, this can cause problems with the selector.
Several threads in the past have suggested removal and slow drying (My suggestion: over a radiator or in the airing cupboard) may sort the problem
HTH Good luck

You guys are great. thanks

its not looking good, dis pak £120 cam gaskets etc £120 new bit £120, there is also a leak under the car, probably needs new cam belt, and the car only does about 10 mpg. 1999 worth not a lot
i think i'm gonna have to put the old lady down. maybe buy a merc a class for the girlie and i'll drive the van
any thoughts, anyone want to buy very cheap

have you had ECU read for fault codes ? if not do so before throwing cash about, selector switch can be had from many breakers for a reasonable price. Stick with your Omega and you'll appreciate it later, their great cars. Also your car may be in limp mode just now with faulty switch.

I have had the car for 3 years and love it, but ive spent so much on it up untill now it's so expensive to run etc. time for a change i think i is only driven round town these days bit of a waste

I had exactly the same problem a couple of months ago and it was the selector switch. Had it replaced at the Telford meet for a second hand unit that The Boy had spare and it's been fine since. :y
Might be worth asking if anyone on the forum has a spare one they'll donate or let you have cheap.
