About a month ago I filled car in petrol station and when I went to start car ........... turned over fine but non start, took key out tryed again and started but felt hesitant at first but ran fine (no missfires) from then on.
It did it again last week same carry on as above, but then 2 days ago stopped car at friends garage emptyed some stuff out boot an then no start, this time I all but drained the battery trying to get it to go, we then put it on the booster and the car fired first time.
So I thought at first it was battery as it seemed to drain fairly quickly and something to do with the immobiliser.
So this morning i went into local motor factors had battery checked but it shows as fine
My friend has a cheep tech 2 and for some reason the "My Naff Code Reader" demo software, which he has used on this car before said ....... no echo or kept flashing use line 7 but wouldn't go any further....... so no fault codes obtained
The car has behaved its self all day until I parked in town and yep no start again
This time though when I let all the lights on dash do there thing ........... but I had 1 lit that is a car with a spanner through it.
Sure enough the cavalry arrive I turn the key and it fired as if nothing was wrong, cant say I saw that warning light as the car started as normal and is not on when running
I've had a look about here and as I said thought it was the immobiliser, but could this be the crank shaft pick up?
will try again to get fault codes but any thoughts just now are welcome
It's a 02 Omega 2.6
many thanks

Sounds like the crankcase sensor's on the way out.
-
Is that the same as a crankshaft sensor? :-?

Same thing - just my terminology! ;)

yep crank sensor - replace asap as it will get worse to the point it will let you down and simply not start !

I know - just didn't want to be too rude ;)

You might want to change the fuel filter as well, as this gave me alot of starting issue problems on mine ;)

Do the Paperclip test mate and put the results on here so someone can tell you what they are :y

Why?
Get rid then and have a 2.5 or 3.0 ;D

Get one of Pete's tech2 leads. ;D ;D

my 3.0 very often does this but i have found that if i open bonnet and slam it , it will start straight up, strange ways these cars have
-
the fact you say it very often does it suggests maybe your slamming technique doesn't solve the problem ;)
-
Many thanks so far .......... I still don't have any codes as yet but where do we find the part number on the crank sensor so i can pop into the dealers later.......... How much are we talking here for this part?
Regards

iirc i paid about 60 quid for one for my 2.5 a few months back.

[/highlight]slamming technique deffo solves problem cause it allways starts after lol , mind you i know what you mean, and i have traced mine to cam sensor because if i tap it , it means the difference between start or no start and yes i know its an easy thing to change but im leaving it until i do rocker gaskets
