Title: Stubby Aerial
Post by: Albatross on 19 April 2008, 15:49:05
I want to change my stubby black aerial on my Elite facelift for a shark-fin similar to those you see on a Saab or BMW.

What's in there?

I have a Siemens NCDC2013 stereo with a Nokia phone cradle system wired in.

Reliable Dave from DND is pretty sure that it is just a phone aerial and that the PM aerial is in the rear window. He also says that buying an aftermarket shark-fin which doubles up as phone + aerial will give better radio reception.

Does anyone know how much of a pain it would be to remove / replace? I assume that I'd have to go to the lengths of getting behind the roof lining at the rear.

As a final question; where is my Sat/Nav GPS receiver?

Sat nav receiver is probably the little square box on the passenger side of the dashboard, right under the windscreen - hope to help!

AFAIK the actual GPS reciever is "built-in" to the NCDC2013.

I don't have one of those :-/

I'm guessing it must be in the unit then?

Anyone know anything about removing the stubby aerial? Is it a roof-lining job?

Yes you will have to drop the roof lining, and if using it for radio as well you will need to extend and feed up the radio aerial wire too.

Aah, there speaks the voice of wisdom (and experience from the sound of it.

I don't suppose you can forewarn me of what sort of electrical connection and fixing bolts I'm going to come accross could you?

I'd really like to know that I've bought a suitable replacement and get it colour coded in advance before dismantling the car and then do the swap in the one visit and same day.

On a facelift with Nav the GPS antenna is in the base of the roof aerial (the boot bit), the whip part is a dual band GSM/PCN phone antenna.

The radio antenna is utilises the rear screen demister tracks in the glass and there is an antenna amp under the rear parcel shelf.

So I was right in the 1st place!! :o

The roof aerial is the GPS and the phone.

That complicates things a bit. I need to find a shark-fin replacement which will work and do the job of both.

Or just go on eBay and get a wired GPS antenna to put on your dash instead, like the carin system.....

I'd rather keep it stock, but with a nicer aerial.

I'm sure I'll find a nice aerial to do the job, what I need to know is does anyone know what the inside of the stock one looks like connection and bolt wise?
