Is the fuel getting through to the injectors? Has this happened since you recently filled up with petrol (dirty?)? Is it a diesel? :o Have the plugs been changed / are they ok?
It certainly sounds like a fuel / choking problem when cold.

Has the fuel filter been replaced???
-
plugs and filter have just been replaced dont know much about injectors but it start on a bump start
-
Do a paperclip test yourself and see if any codes are stored on there.
There is a how to in the maintenence section on this ;)
-
done that nothing came up cheers anyway :y

you say sometimes? does it run fine when it does start?
are there any typical conditions when it doesent start, ie sitting for a long period
-
If it won't start under cranking, but starts fine on a "bump" it sounds like poor battery condition to me... :(
-
if i have to bump start and then swith of the engine after 10 secs then turn it over it starts first time it just wont start when cold or stood for a few hours.
-
ok , when turning ove does it sound slow, if so then as entwood say it could be a battery issue, check volts in battery after a few hours, should be no less than 12.5v
if this is all ok then could possibly be a fuel problem , perhaps a drain somewhere, :-/

ok thanks all for helping me on the right track. :y

Had a recent starting issue with mine, mine turned out to be a faulty fuel pump....HTH...Wayne

With mine it was one of the rubber pipes in the fuel pump it a very small cut at the base . I just cut it back reconected it and all was good.Just the same starting probs as yours.

I'd go for that as well.......even just after 10 secs of running and being turned off......its more likely to start easier.
Tho if when you keep cranking it...how quickly does the battery die?
Not sure about fuel pump prob.........ive had that as well.....and even jumping it.......it still refused to start.......tho probably didnt like being jump started from a veccyC ;D

The other factor to consider is the starter motor; is it starting to go u/s and when cold not able to turn the crank quickly enough? :-/
Does still sound like a fuel or electrical (battery) problem however.
