Title: Stupid question..............
Post by: rhino4 on 21 April 2008, 12:12:27
Hi there

I have been having problems getting my 2.5 omega tourer (s reg)to start over the past couple of weeks. when I turn the ignition the car will try to start but if it does not start the first couple of times you can hear the starter become more sluggish, and if I continue to try it will not start at all and even the central locking will not work. the car will work with jump leads ( after a while charging) And have been told by a former omega owner that the Battery is too small for the car. The battery does indeed look to small for the bracket and it does not have any information displayed on the battery to indicate how old it is or what type it is. Can somebody tell me if this sounds like  a battery problem or could it be more of a major problem?
Many thanks in advance

Regards

Richard

Either the battery is too small or knackered..

Ask your local Vx dealer, he should know the correct size for your car. My 3.0 uses a 72A, & I would expect yours to be similar or maybe the next size down 66A(?)

The Vauxhall GO batteries are a good deal with a Trade Club card, once you have identified the right one.

This is one of the hundreds of symptoms which can arise due to a failing battery. Nothing can be taken for granted when dealing with this; all sorts of weird and wonderful things can and do happen. Try to borrow a known good one to test the situation..

Hmmmm....battery may well be to small but, I would also be reading the fault codes to check if there are any other reasons why the car is not starting.

When it spins over, does it spin over reasonably quickly?

If it's all Ok with jump leads and after a charge , I would say it's probably the battery.

Ask at your local motor factors or accesory shop that sell batteries, if they have a battery tester and would they test it for you.

Had mine done after I was gonna buy a new one - the guy in the shop said  give it a 10 -12 hour trickle charge and bring it in and he would test it.  Done that  -test showed battery was fine and has been since.

Bit of different situation to you though - mine had been standing a while whilst work was carried out on the car over a few weeks. Had radio on while I was working and over that time battery had run down.

good luck though -worth a try before you buy a new un' :y :y

Probaly gonna get a boll~cking now from other members for not disconnecting the battery while I was working on the car :-[ :-[ :-[

Hi there
The first couple of times it did, but the the more times I try it just gets much slower until nothing happens and there is so little power in the car that the stereo goes into safe mode.
many thanks

First try charging the battery overnight...got nothing to lose, if you find that sorts it then great, if its not long before its doing it again, get yourself a new battery...sounds very much like its the battery low on charge though...
