Post by: cockneyboy100 on 27 April 2008, 06:43:51
taking my cairn sat nav out,  i am after a coin box or some sort of cubby hole thingy, to replace the phillips screen.
have seen these on some models,

do you know if one would fit straight in, vx want a tenner,

next question anyone got spare one.

and before you ask, sorry but the main cairn unit is faulty, everthing else is fine.

cheers

Right, now I understand! :y

So would the TomTom fit into the space nicely to avoid it being on the windscreen where it gets in the way of your vision, is on show open to criminal attack, and it would look neater anyway?  :-?

its to big for the hole, (oh matron)

it sticks on the screen, i always take it out when not in use, and always wipe the screen were the suction marks have been, otherwise the thiefing <<<<<  know you have sat nav, and head straight for glove box,

does not get in the way , it sits low down on screen .

Oh well, looks as though it is a pocket replacement you are after! :y

How about searching the breakers Phill?  There is a specialist Vx breakers near me, and I know there are others and around Watford there MUST be one, so that's where I would go unless someone on this forum has one. :y :y

What part is faulty on the carin.  If I can get it working with the bits I have (ie, if its not CD unit in boot), then I have a coin box.

every time you put disk in, it throughs it out, can do straight swap if you like, i never use it anyway, will keep the speaker, unless you have a cream kick panel, without a hole in it

Why do you need these things???? If this keeps up i'm fitting a towbar & getting a caravan (i'll be able to reverse it!!!) because satnavs are equally as sad.
   I'm not ranting, i'm begging...PLEASE STOPPIT. ::)
Stupid worthless gimmick. Total waste of money & sadder than an anorak.
    I hope this does'nt count as a rant 'cos i promised to stop that but...........aaaaarrrrrghhh >:( >:( >:(
   I know i'm being irrational but i can't help it, sorry. :(

Bear in mind, its a driver aid, not mandatory instruction.  To be honest, the media blow it out of proportion, unless there really are that many stupid people in the world.

I have never ended somewhere I can't go, though I tend to only use 'quickest' option.

:)I admit it's an irrational hatred & they work fine for most, its my problem. Cockneyboy, @ 55ft you must be pulling abnormal/wide loads. Usual trailer lengths are 40/45ft. I drive an artic pulling containers on a skelly everyday so i'm HGV positive too, but don't satnavs need an upgrade to allow for low bridges, weight limits etc?

I can reverse my caravan too, & I don't have a HGV licence.  :P

Caravans are harder to reverse than an artic. The shorter the trailer the quicker you have correct the lock. I learned before my hgv when we took up banger racing, bought a Transit  & car trailer then realized none of us could reverse it!!!! :-[
    We learned!!!

I know!  ;) I must admit to having a laugh at a lot of caravan sites  hen owners haven't a clue how to go backwards. Although there's a mover on  my 'van it's still easier & faster to reverse it all down the path with the car. It'll be even easier if I could ever train SWMBO to stand somewhere so that she can see the mirrors of the car  :-?, I get the occasional glimpse of her or vaguely hear an instruction of somekind!!  :-?  :-?  :-?

Try calling Teleatlas or Navteq, who can supply.

hi amigov6

meant total length is 55 foot, but moor like 50, you know us blokes like to exaggerate about size,..

have got he low bridge option, dont think you can get a weight limit warning package.

Blokes exaggerate sizes? Surely not! I once told a girl "when god made women drivers he was only joking". Straight off the cuff she fired back "that's 'cos you blokes tell us 6 inches is a foot"!!!
She was always a good laugh. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I wasn't asking for an illegal copy, sorry if i gave that impression. If somebody has a cd that they are now not using or have a dead unit i would like to see if mine works. so i don't wanna pay navteq prices for  cd that i possible won't need.
