Over the last couple of days my alarm has started going off pretty much every time I park up. It's fine for 30 minutes then it goes off.
Sounds like bonnet sensor, I know. I had a poke around last night in the dark and it seems intact but I will investigate this a little further.
The really odd thing is that it just went off in the office car park and the horn silenced when I unlocked the car but not the siren. This continued for another couple of minutes. In the end I got in the car, switched the ignition on, then off, then on again. Eventually after I'd left the ignition on and resorted to reading the handbook it stopped.
Crept out of the car and locked with a key and fingers crossed it's OK.
I didn't think the alarm was set unless the car was deadlocked by pressing the lock button twice? Pretty sure I locked it once today, mindful of the problem.
Does this sound like normal behaviour or is there a fault with the power sounder as well perhaps?
Was my silencing method correct? Can't think of anything else I should have done. (except to apply Sammy Sledge to the power sounder >:( )
Cheers,
Kevin

As a check, unplug the bonnet sensor and see if it stops it going off...

OK. Will do. Was thinking about duck tape but that's even easier!
Is it normal for the power sounder to be a pain to silence?
It's 4 years old so possible the power sounder battery's ducked I guess.

If I remember right Tunnie Just ended up ripping his Power Sounder Out or was it the Power Sounder Batts
Mine just stopped making the 4 beeps noise and i have nor heard a peep out of it since, cant say the same about my horn alarm lol damn thing has a mind of its own time i looked into it
-
I'd never heard anything from mine until Sunday night when it went off. Certainly hasn't been giving the 4 peeps warning. I'll pull it out sometime and change the batteries, then take a decision on whether to put it back in or not! If the Horn doesn't put them off they'll get in anyway. Guess the power sounder just adds Thatcham approval.

My horn alarm sounder has been disconected ::)

I think the Batts for the power sounder are hard to come by these days as the company who made them does not anymore if my memory serves me right.

I'm sure I can bodge something. :y
May just be the bonnet switch though as MarkDTM suggests.

My alarm used to fart around all the time. I just reached in and disconnected the power sounder. Good as gold since. :y

Yes i ripped my backup alarm module out ::)
Kept going beep beep beep after getting out, then it started going off randomly too.
Was interesting removing it, i must have upset it cause it started going off, but when i pulled out the cable it was. beep beep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
My dads alarm kept going off, took it to the dealer a number of times (before OOF) and they greased up the bonnet switch and so on. But it was the backup module.
My money is on the backup alarm module being goosed.

OK. This has now become a major hassle. Got home an hour ago and it has gone off twice. I'm likely to become (even more) unpopular in this neighbourhood if I can't stop the damned thing. Tried unplugging the bonnet switch the first time to no avail. Had a look inside it and it's clean, appears to be operating normally. Might need adjustment, of course, but in any case the alarm goes off with it disconnected.
Is there any way of locking the car without setting the alarm?
Is there a way to disable the alarm (fuse I can remove, etc?)
Not got my Haynes manual to hand so no wiring diagrams.
Answers on a PM if you like as this is potentially a bit sensitive.

Try pressing the button with the man running away after you turn off......this will turn off the internal movement sensors...and if it stops the false alarms will tell you where the fault lies :y

If you want to lock the car without setting the alarm, simply reach in through the rear drivers side door, press the door button on the drivers door down,( this should lock all four doors) and then close the rear door.
I will post later on how to disconnect the power sounder (very simple)

.... making sure of course that your keys are in your hand/pocket! :o

Thanks for the suggestions.
I locked it using the "reaching in through the rear door" trick.
I think I may have found something, although I'm not convinced it's the source of my problems. The boot light pin switch was loose on its' mounting screw so I've cleaned that up, mounted it properly and also added a little self adhesive felt pad where it contacts the body. I was moving stuff in and out of the boot on Sunday so maybe I dislodged it. Still don't have a lot of confidence that it's the issue but time will tell.

Guys,
I had same problems with my alarm on my 2001 2.2 Meega.
Only solution was to remove power sounder as batteries were hard to get hold of and you have to seal the unit back up well as it sits under a scuttle drain if i remember right.
No probs since!

Looking from the front of the car, the alarm's bonnet switch is usually on the right hand side of the engine bay towards the back. There's a hole in the sound proofing where the plunger hits the underside of the bonnet. That's the alarm switch for the bonnet. Try unpliugging it to start with & see what happens. The bracket often gets bent while working under the bonnet.

Under the scuttle driver's side. A manual won't help you for things like that anyway.

Hi, i had the same problem when i bought my miggy last Dec. Read posts on forum and checked all the usual suspects. I thought i had found the possible problem when i noticed a sensor wire on one of the rear quarter lights on my estate had been knocked off. Reconnected it but problem still persisted. My problem is the power sounder. Unit probally knackered. I have found out that, if you have a trade card, a new one costs either £56 or £137 depending on your chassis number. You will also need the code off the old one when/if you replace it to get the correct one. Your insurance may be invalid if you dissconect it and you are unlucky enough to have your car either broken into or stolen as it is a Thatcham approved factory fitted unit i am led to believe. It does'nt seem a lot to replace for peace of mind or any insurance hassles that may arise.

When my alarm started sounding for no reason it was down to the right hand full beam bulb. There was no fault indication on the screen and I hadn't used full beam to notice it had blown. When I did finally notice, changing the bulb ended the alarm problem. The bulb was fine to look at. No broken filament, no discolouration.

Had the same problem with my 2002 model, after dealer having it for three weeks and telling me alarm never went off I got it back and it went off within 10 minutes! They came back and got the car, replaced the power sounder (£125 fitted) and all was well! :)
