Title: tuning the big 3.0
Post by: big matt on 29 April 2008, 23:20:57
will i experience any running problems if i put a induction kit on a 3.0 elite (auto) 97 model and if i put a full sports exhaust system on it i want to de-cat it but keep the cats for m.o.t time, also will mine have self levelling suspension on it? if so will it still be possible to lower it on shocks and springs about 40mm? any info gratefully recieved. P.S not looking for mega horse power just a bit more grunt and plenty more V6 rumble

Not sure about the suspension, but the induction kit and exhaust wont cause any problems. dont expect much in power goin, but the noise is good!

It won't be worth bothering for the performance. The factory induction system is very good and the air filter is more than large enough for the power output. If you do modify it make sure it can draw no warm air from under the bonnet or you'll have less power.

Exhaust manifolds are the first part I'd change but not many solutions available there... :'(

As said, best to avoid oiled filters.

Drill the air box and a Courtenay panel filter is best for noise and ease of use, with a cold air feed from the grill next to the fog light to the box.

I have a cat back powerflow exhaust which can be 'tuned' to what noise levels you fancey.

Sports cats might be better than no cat as it saves the messing about at MOT time, and i have seen it give a decent increase on a 2.5.

As for suspension if it is self levelling you need to disconect/ change the shocks to lower it.

I have a full set of shocks and Pi springs off an elite if you are intested, and they supposedly give a 40mm drop, will be a straight swap and save you the hassle of stripping down the front shocks  :y
