Title: V6 Water Leak

Hi guys

I have a problem with my 2.5 v6 97reg

when running on road temp sits between 80-90 deg c.

If i turn heater to cold temp tries to go over 95 deg c

When i park up and switch off engine, coolant starts to leak, under presure fom header tank cap...

Help Please!!!!!!

When you shutdown, the electric pump at the top left of the radiator will run if the temperature is high. If this pump fails, you can get localised boiling in the heads and coolant leakage.

If you are seeing very high temperatures, your radiator may be partly blocked, but 95 sounds about normal. The main fan should run if it gets much higher.

Your heater matrix could be acting as the heat loss, happened on my old 97 2.5. I found it's not easy to tell if the radiator flow is adequate using a garden hose, too much pressure.

What is the condition and history of the coolant? Agood flushing might help.

I wonder if these could be obscure symptoms of HBV failure. :-/  Leak plus air in system can cause strange behaviour.

is there oil in header tank, or has there been?

95C is correct running temp.

Thanks for the replies chaps, most apprieciated.

Theres no oil in header, and no yoghourt in oil or oil filler.

I will flush out the radiator and see what happens.

only had the car a short time, so dont know for sure how its been behaving.

Hmmm, I wonder if a previous owner has been messing with it and hasnt fixed a fault properly.
80-90c under normal driving is too low, makes me wonder if the thermostat has been removed.....does it warm up quickly or does it take ages?

If you leave it idling does the radiator fan switch on (approx 97c) ?

Hi Matchless.
It runs at 90-95, it warms up quite quickly.

To tell the truth i hav'nt noticed if the fan cuts in or not,so i will have a look at that,  What a berk eh! :-[    should have thought of that realy
