today i drove to the in-laws , ten mins later i go to leave and the miggy would not start, turning over lovely but would not start, so i did the paper clip test all i got was a code 31 and a code 12 now i know code 31 was only there because car was not running,
now the strange part there was a wire trapped in my cam cover (now i know why it still leaks LOL ) anyway i disconnected it and got the wire out, so i did paperclip test and only got the two codes again so i thought i may get a different code if i crank it and guess what the car started and only got code 12, i connected the sensor back up and thought all was ok yet five mins later went to go home and it would not start again so disconnected the wire again and it started any ideas

Damaged cam sensor wire :-/
What codes do you get with engine running????
-
definitely not cam sensor wire, the wire in question seems to dissapear downwards, there are no codes when engine running
-
Start, get it hot and rev it....does the fault light come on.....sounds like the knock sensor.
-
no mate no eml
i will go and get a pic of wire
-
does sound like knock sensor wire to me !! :(
-
the wire in question dissapears down between the back of the cam cover next to the water pipe

that damaged wire is knock sensor mate will knock back your ing timing and hamper perfomance ! but you should get eml !! try getting it up to temp and rev it hard and see if eml comes on ! :y

yes if you are getting a dead short across the wires and by looking at it its pretty fubared :( should have one in my box of spares if you need one fella :y
-
I suspect that its a dead short and affecting other sensors which share the same LT supply...
-
silly question mate but would this cause poor starting or do you think it is purely coincidence i have found this

The LT supply is used by quite a few sensors......short is out and you could get all sorts of problems!
-
i will try revving it in a minute when i go to the shop to see if i get eml
-
Right, I just checked.
The LT supply connects to:
Knock sensor screens and sensor.
Air temp sensor
Coolant temp sensor
EGR valve
Throttle pot
MAF
No wonder it wont start!

hi guys i got it up to operating temp and gave it a rev to 6000rpm but got no eml,

a dead short it is then by the looks of it
-
The LT sits on the screen of the knock sensor....so I am not surprised.
Might be worth checking the damage to see if you can seperate the wires out and get rid of the short....or remove the damaged section and re-join it.
-
the more i look the more i find wrong with the car lol, the list is getting longer and longer
