Post by: JueV6 on 26 April 2008, 18:59:09
Hi all,
I have just brought a 98 Elite. :) It's Fully Loaded. only prob is the box. it drives like new till you give it a load of right foot. then the box seems to stick in 1st.

has anyone any ideas before i start getting it looked at?

looking forward to the replies.....hopefully.

Sorry if this is a REALLY stupid question :-[ , but is the 'S' (Sports) button engaged?  This does lock the gears and force the revs high until eventually changing the gears up once the right speed is reached. :y

Hi Lizzie,
Not a stupid question at all, but alass no the sports button isn't engaged. when it locks in 1st you can hit the rev limiter and it still doesn't change.

7,000 in 1st, Boy it takes off like a scalded cat... lol:)

Do the lights to show which gear you have selected flicker or is more than one on?

:( Hi, I seem to have the same problem (Ive got a 2ltr Estate). It goes through the gears normally and very smooth, but sometimes, not always, when I put my foot down, the gears seem to change up then back down again as if the car has a stutter or like a DVD sticking, it is only sorted when I back off the throttle  :o

I'm having similar problems I think although every so often mine seems to rev and not go anywhere as if I've dipped the clutch (it's an auto) but then wham all the power comes in with a big shunt...... ouch.

Can anyone help

checking fluid level is always the first thing to do with an auto,if that improves things to a degree its then usually a good idea to change the fluid and filters.mine wasmisbehaving a bit recently,i topped the fluid up to the correct level (took about half a litre) it seems  ok now.but i will probably do a fluid/filter change in the near future.

You should be careful of this, could very well damage the auto box oil seal.   :'(  :'(  :'(

Sorted....:):)
Took the sumps off and found a peice of oil pump shim.
Phoned my local Tramsmission specialist and they wanted £1200 to recondition it.

Looked on Ebay and there was a AR35 from a 2000 MV6 for sale. After a trip to reading and £50 lighter (I would have brought his arm home after i'd ripped it off at that price). Took my box out only to find that it was an AR25. Previous owner had the box replaced  and the wrong box had been used. It's completly burnt out. Now after 8 ltf of ATF it runs like a dream and changes through all 4 gears.

Thanks to all for your input.
