Title: Over pressurizing
Post by: tunnie on 11 May 2008, 18:03:18
Is there anything else bar HG that can cause this on the 4pots?

Blocked rad? Faulty HBV?

I have been told the symptons are:

"suction was building in the radiator expansion tank"

Who told you that?

The seller of tunnie's latest  project car  8-)

4pot estate, sold as "head gasket blown"

But, apparently the mechanic who recovered it said, its the HG cause there is suction building in the expansion tank"

So this could mean a number of things to me, although it is a high millage 4pot so does suggest HG (i am budgeting for it)

But was just wandering what else would cause it? Silted up rad? HBV faulty causing over pressure?

I got it for silly money, its the new shed/dog mobile/garbage hauler for the summer!  ;D

lol

When my dads 2.2 HG went, it just lost coolant, and smoked like a train, no suction.

Does suction point 100% do HG?

The closest you might get is if it had failed from coolant to oil return way, that way it would get exposed to engine vac via the breathers.

Check for pump flow in the header tank.

Give it all a good flush out.

Replace the header tank cap.

Cheers mate.... might take you up on that. I too now have a dog transporter!

11 month MOT & 3 months tax can't be bad for what i paid.

Actually, you doing anything next Sunday? Dads 2.2 and mine, also need new rear springs.
