Title: slipping tranny
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 11 May 2008, 15:49:10
Suspect the above, on the 2.0. auto.  Revs go v high, car goes nowhere - feels like "clutch slip" in a manual.

Assuming the fluid level is OK - is it new gearbox time?

I think I know the answer...

I really do hate Omega autoboxes, they are the most unreliable hunks of crap autobox out there. The amount failing just recently is outrageous!

They may all be lasting a bit longer if they weren't "sealed for life" and have a dipstick for regular level checking / refilling  >:(

Well as its a project omega.......could be a good time to find out how they work.....and take it apart and recondition  :y

As long as the oil isnt full of metal filings.......then id say its pretty much had it.

witchcraft is how they work- or badly ;D got to agree with James all it needs is a dippstick and then there might be a chance of maintaining them >:(

Well, my 03 2.6 auto is at 135,000, our 98 2.5 auto is at 235,000 and my previous 97 2.5 was at 200,000 when I moved it on.

They've only had fluid changes.

I do hope I don't get to regret this posting.

Fluid change would be dead easy if it could be drained with a plug, and refilled with the dipstick tube....  >:(

I have Marie's old sumps, with designs on welding in a couple of drain plug bosses.

Then again, if it's the first time it's been done in ages, a change of filter and clean out of the sumps is a good idea anyway.

It would be no problem to pop a drain plug in the sumps - just a PITA to do it on every Omega you need to do transmission work on  :(
