Hi all,
I've just replaced the rear shocks on my Elite with new self levellers from Vx, but now it seems to sit too high. It looks as if the rear is being pumped up to max. all the time. Is this likely to be the load sensor that's faulty or could it be some thing else? Does anyone have any dimensions of what an unladen car should be so that I can check this out?
Many thanks for any help

Hi, have you tried to disconnect the air lines to the shocks to see if it lowers it? There should be a small air connection near the top of the shock, disconnect it to see what happens. If it lowers it my guess would be a problem with the rear load sensor which is on the rear suspension arm, drivers side. Looks like a small box with an arm which is attached to the suspension arm. Provides the level of the back end and hence switches the compressor on to pump up the shocks when required.
The car should look even all round like my elite, not like a dragster. ;) Think the idea is to have the car level no matter how much weights in the back.

Is it a red car?
Put a white stripe down the side and you've got the Starsky & Hutch look! lol

;D Yeah man I know what you mean, too many of them in my area as it is, don't think my Omega would go down too well blending in to the hot hatch crap look.

Have you got the self levelling sensor on your car?
Have a look underneath from the back of the car on the driver's side, you should see a little black bok about 3"x3" with a flat metal lever about 4" long coming out and going toward the outside of the car. All of this is attached to the chassis.
From the end of the flat metal bar is a 3" long rod hanging vertically with a double bend in it and a plastic ball joint at each end. The bottom of this is attached to your trailing arm.
This is how the car knows what level your car is at. Try using a big flat tool to pop the bottom of this bar off the trailing arm temporarily, this disables the self levelling and is easy to pop back on.
Also take a picture of your car and post it up so we can see exactly how "high" high is.
I have a similar opinion of my self-levelling Elite facelift (fitted as standard); I'll dig around and find the thread on the subject then pop back to edit this post with the link.
EDIT: Here you go...
