Does anyone know whats the easiest way to detect an air leak from the throttle housing/injection rail.
My 2.0 auto, has been running fine, however over the last couple of days its started surging up and down the revs when come to a halt. Does not appear as bad when in drive or rev. any ideas

Vacc test it.
Make sure the breathers, inc the post throttle one, are all totally clear.

I use a refill cannister of lighter gas. Spray it around the suspected area and if the revs change then you are sure there is an airleak somewhere.

All the hoses are deinatly clear, and free from debris. Also small bore in manifold is also clear.

I have exactly the same problem, and it followed a complete clean of the breathers, throttle body and IACV.
Silly question I know, but by spraying lighter fluid on the 'area' how can you tell where the leak is?

If its an air leak (or vacuum leak more like) it will suck in the gas and you will hear the change in engine note.
Carb cleaner works just as well.

:o :o I think I would use something more inert than highly flammable lighter fluid on a running engine!
My 2L had very similar symptoms. Turned out to be the white vac hose that ran from the TB round the back to the EGR had broken off the EGR.

Or pop it down the motorway to south Nottingham for a little look?

Give it a good drive. Mine did this after cleaning the throttle body, breathers and ICV. Mine was totally caked and a couple of the breathers were so badly blocked they needed to be drilled. After a good drive the lumpy idling stopped and went back to normal. I think the ECU needs a little time to adjust.
