Title: Air con noise

yesterday i was sat in traffic and there was a noise coming from the air con, it was a loud noise, sounded like a knocking, turned off the air con and the noise went, turned it back on and it appeared again.
Today there is no problem, air con works fine.

I did notice that when the knocking started there was a lot (More than usual) of water condensate dumped under the car.

Any ideas what the knocking could have been, there are no warning lights showing.

May be another silly mechanical answer from me; it's not / was not ice that had built upin the system? :-/

I know these system get very cold after working hard. ;)
