Title: only one key paranoia
Post by: feeutfo on 24 May 2008, 01:14:02
only one key with my new mig 3.2. Quoted £80 for new key(45 for tech 2), but, heres the paranoia, whats to stop a previous owner(it was sold back to the dealer, who sold it to a trader, nice bloke actually ) turns up with with the missing key and buggers off with my car? I really do not trust dealers. Cant raise the original keeper to ask him if he lost the spare or gave it back with the car. Can the immobilisor be reprogramed with own and new key to stop a third key working with the car?
Thanks

Yep. Have a word with TheBoy. You should be able to remove pairings with previous transponders and keyfobs and then pair the car with your single key using a Tech 2. There's still a mechanical key out there, but it won't start the car or silence the alarm.

Yup, it can.  Omega can store up to 5 transponders for immobiliser and 5 remote fobs for c/l or alarm.

As a matter of course, when I'm programming keys for members, I erase all of them, and just add ones they actually own.

BTW, if I'm programming, I sell blank keys with transponder for £10, which you then get mechanically cut somewhere.  Alas, haven't found a decent source of new fobs at a good price yet....
