Title: chrome strip removal?
Post by: BruceT on 23 May 2008, 22:19:24
Hi,

I have a V reg 1999 2.0 16v CD spec Omega with the chrome strip/flashings under the bumpers.

Is it possible to remove this without leaving clips or whatever holds it in place?

From recollection the chrome strips are for the greater part held in place by the pained sections od the bumpers. They sit on top of these sections which are in turnm held to the bumpers with clips from behind, in the case of the rear bumper.

You will be left with slots where the trim clipped into.
You will need to remove the bumper to remove the chrome trim tho ;)

Just an update.

The rear chrome strip is easily removed as its just the chrome strip has little chooks with hook into the bumper. They come off fairly easily but be careful as the edges are quite sharp.

The side strips along the doors and front bumper are different though and sit on top of the black textured strip.

Im unsure how to remove these presently.

I *think* it might just be a case of prising them of but im not going to try it untill I kmow exactly.

The rear of the car looks so much better without chrome.

Does anyone know how the side and front chrome is attached?

Ah right. So might be fiddly but they all come out with a bit of persuasion then?

You could always fit face lift door mouldings if you don't like the existing chrome. It'll cost you though.

i might be on my own here, but i really like the chrome strip. it makes the car stand out; quite distinguished. i was in the supermarket carpark earlier on and as i came back to the car i thought about this thread and looked about and the mothership was the only motor with any form of chrome decal other than an e class merc a few spaces along. every other car had solid plastic mouldings and i thought 'you know what, that looks pretty smart'.

(providing its nice and shiny that is!!  ;) )
