Title: heater problem

Hello from a total newbie with his first omega, Ive got an omega 2001 facelift 2.5v6 cdx estate the problem ive got is she was losing water and i took it to a mechanic who pressure tested it and said that it was losing water from the oil cooler and the climate control valve but now i have no heat from the blower is it his fault or a big coincedence he said the valve has 3 pipes on it and a vacume hose and is sure he put all the pipes on the correct way, please help so i can either punch him or take it elsewhere lol

I think they replaced the 'heater bypass valve' which indeed has three hoses plus one vacuum pipe, the vacuum makes the valve operate, I think it is this they are calling 'climate control valve' they/you can check if it is working by switching the aircon on & off, the vacuum changes the water flow. As for the oilcooler leaking water ask them to prove it. The 'heater bypass valve' can be the main cause of coolant loss.

Taking a stab at this problem - The Heater Bypass Valve is a typical and popular culprit for developing leaks with age. I recon the chance of the oil cooler leaking is slim (But not impossible) and i would just as soon confirm and replace the HBV. There is a thread on DIY replacement of the HBV in the maintenance section of this forum. :y

Heater Bypass Valves are a known failure point, they are vacuum controlled and can fail in several ways .. hot, cold, mix, and leak badly as well. There is a "how to" here :

Oil coolers arealso probe to failure, especially the old ones, if the 50/50 antifreeze/water mix has not been maintained .... they corrode .. :(

If the cooler HAS gone you'll need to flush the water system very thoroughly

thanks for the help chaps is it possible that hes put the pipes on the hbv the wrong way around and thats why i'm geting no heat out of the heater on max temp but still get plenty of cold when put on cold ?

yep

check it by disconnecting the vac hose to it: this should put the value in the non-bypass mode so it is sending hot water to the matrix.  THen start up and feel the top matrix hose going into the bulk head, if it does not heat up then yes - looks like it is wrong.  Confirm by reconnecting the vac and setting the temp to super cold - should then open the valve to send heat to the matrix - feel the pipes to check.  you will not get heat in the cabin because the air diverter will prevent it (mostly)
