while my cdx as been sitting on the drive the windscreen has developed a long crack is runs along the bottom and rises up about 7" about the black line.
When sitting in the car it appears just about the bonnet
Do you think this is a mot fail :'( :'(
thank all

If its in the area swept by the wiper it probably is ...
have a look here ...

I think that any crack or chip that falls into the drivers line of vision is an MOT failure.
At the end of the day it's best to get it replaced as it will only get worse.
-
the bad news is that the car is SORN and not insured is been on the drive for year bet a new windscreen is not cheep :'(

May not be overly cheap but is best to shop about as much as possibly & if you are prepared to pay cash they may also make a discount. Most prices listed are for insurance repairs which are inflated at best. I got a deal of auto windscreens a couple of times through being a cash payer

If you are not sure nip it to an MOT staion and ask a tester, it's not an item that it needs to be on the compter or ramp for and then can tell you if it would pass or fail in a matter of seconds.

That's the best option, then if it does pass eventually and you insure it get it done through them.

This makes a drive to an MOT station a tad difficult ... unless it is specifically FOR an MOT :(

Inside wiper sweep = fail, outside = pass. Personal experience and a conversation with a tester on that one
Also, before anyone else says so, stay away from RAC windscreens....
Actually I think someone on here is an MOT tester - post a piccie

I used to be a tester!! The answer here is pretty accurate really. Unfortunately, like every other MOT item, the decision is down to the tester's discression! ::) ::) ::) If you post a Piccie I'll give you my opinion, but that may differ to the one of the tester on the day!!
However, I would advise having it replaced ASAP anyway as the windscreen provides a high percentage of the structural strength of the car and should be in good order. ;) ;) ;)
That said, you could always insure the car before taking it for the MOT, and if it does fail you can get it repaired on your insurance!! ;) ;) ;) :y :y :y

i just called Autoglass for a quote, £449.99! they offered a 20% discount straight away though.
-
when i last needed a new windscreen was quoted 130 all in.
if they needed to replace any of the mounting rubbers or plaastic that was an extra 30. thats a company in windsor and they did a good job
i would not bother with the big companies they are set up to rip off your insurance!

Have just had the same problem :( car has been off the road for 7 months. started with some white discolouring in the corner of the windscreen, next time i look there is 18inch crack from the corner to the middle :'( how can it just happen. Same as, car is sorn & no insurance. just another job to add to list to get car back on the road.
