Had a small oil fire following cam cover gasket failure which melted the three vac pipes running above the wiring loom on pasenger side. I have had a look at Mark's very helpful vac diagram and now think my vac system was not connected correctly before the fire! I have the vac reservoir at the front. One of the pipes is not connected to it and has in fact been deliberately blocked off (not by me). Reservoir faulty perhaps? Hence one of the three pipes was not doing anything anyway. However, engine was running ok I thought but perhaps there is some hidden power that I have not experienced! Is it possible that someone has bypassed the reservoir and taken vac supply from somewhere else? Mark's diagram also mentioned that the vac supply to the two solenoid valves should be to the side pipe with the supply to the activators coming from the nose pipe. On my rear valve the connections are the other way round but that appears to be how it is connected in the Haynes manual picture. Is this ok? Thought I would connect everything up as per the diagram and maybe this will tell me if the front reservoir is faulty. Is there any other way of checking it?
Finally, can someone please tell me where the vac intake to the fuel pressure regulator (stainless thingy connected to the fuel rail at the rear of the plenum) should be connected to?

GPar..see you live close to me ,so if you want to have a look at how the pipes/tubes are connected on mine then you can route yours the same..think that is easier than pictures.Drop me a PM and we can met up somewhere if you wish.Andrew

Thanks for the offer Andrew. Trying to get job finished today as car is off the road following cam cover replacement job. Vacuum pipes are a being replaced at the same time. Have sorted out all the multi ram pipes and where they should go, just need to know where the other end of the vac pipe coming out of the fuel pressure regulator is supposed to go. Could you possibly have a look and let me know? Anyone else know?

Cracked it! Boy was this car's vac system in a mess. All brought about I think by some one having broken off one of the plastic pipes into the front vac reservoir. All sorts of bypass methods had been employed! Cannot see how the multi ram system could have been working properly so I'm expecting some improvement. All pipes in their correct place now. Have bodged a repair on the broken vac reservoir pipe and hope it holds until I get a new one. Anyone know how much they are?
Back to putting it together, here's hoping!

Fuel pressure regulator reference pipe goes to the bottom of the throttle body on my 3.2. I have a feeling it connects to the idle air valve inlet hose on earlier engines though. :-/
I hope you've noticed a little more grunt now it's working properly. :y
