Title: company car
Post by: miggy on 22 October 2007, 17:31:59
Company car went back today, told them I did not want another, so i had the salary increase instead.

Tax code gone back to what it used to be and i am now quids in, alright i have to use the miggy to get to work as I do not travel anymore but i am now based 3 mile from work.

If I happen to use my car for anything work related I can claim 25p a mile, but I should not have to do much of this due to having my own site now.

My biggest prob was where to put the dam cars.

1) Mrs Miggys
2) Daughter Miggy
3) Miggy
4) Company car.

I had no bl**dy room, it was like musical cars in a morning on the drive

 ;D ;D ;D

Only 25p - Inland Revenue set non company cars up to 10,000 miles per year at 40p with my firm :-/

When you take a 'car allowance' instead of a company car, you typically get the company car mileage rate set by IR
not the much higher private car for work purposes rate

The mileage rate you get is whatever the company decides to pay, it has nothing to do with the IR rates.

At the end of the year, if you have used your own car for business purposes, you can then claim the tax back on the difference (See for IR125 on the HMRC website).  its 40p for the first 10,000 miles then 25p thereafter.  You don't get back the difference, just the tax on the difference, but if you do loads of miles you can be quids in!

I am still in a win win situation with my arrangement, maybe not for other, but certanly for me.

I should not do any company miles, if i do its 25p, but my pay packet is far better each month.

I would like to point out that using your own car for business use.....it should be insured for business use......and just not pleasure and to and from work.....otherwise you should be getting taxi's to get everywhere  :y ;)
