Title: Spare Key problems
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 10 June 2008, 00:20:21
I have an Omega 2.6 V6 CD and find everythng works correctly except the spare key.

With the spare key, you can open the door only with the key itself and not the remote locking. Then the hazard lights start to flash.

Ignition can be started but only for a few seconds. The warning light comes on, indicating a fault (car with spanner through it) possibly with the immoboliser.

When the original key is used everyhting goes back to normal.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Or how it could be rectified.

Has the battery been changed in the spare key?

Sounds to me like the spare key has had the blade cut but hasn't had the immobiliser transponder nor the remote fob paired with the car.

Yes have tried key in position 2 and tried both door open and shut buttons. But nothing happens at all, except hazard flashers keep going and immoboliser icon on dash.

How would one go about reprogramming the key?

PS the battery is fine

requires tech2 OR a descent autolocksmith who has the necessary software to talk to the car - good ones have it

no idea of cost but a autolocksmith sold me the key fob incl transponder (new) and programmed it to car for £45

A couple of OOF members have both the kit and the knowledge, if you put your location in your profile one of them may be near enough to assist you ?? - but at the moment we have no idea where you are !!

Thanks for that.

Have phoned main Vauxhall dealer who will reprogramme key for £20.

I'm also considering as the key fob seems quite worn and difficult to operate, replacing key fob new too. If I can get one without paying too much.

Any ideas how much a new fob is?

that was the price for the keyfob /transponder and setting it up to fit my car - £45 all in.

In the service file for the car I note that Vxhall in 2002 charged  £65 for the same - hate to think what it is now

Easy enough to get a pass word reminder, logout, go to log in and take the 'forgotten password' option, the forum will send you a password reminder to your given email address.
Caused me a few problems until I realised that gmail was pushing the reminder straight into my spam folder.

firstly, check for transponder chip in key.

secondly, key programming - http://theboy.omegaowners.com if that helps

thirdly, Martin Imber repairs failed switches, PM him

lastly, someone has unplugged your alarm horn.

Thanks for the info

I'm glad the alarm doesn't keep going off all the time it would send me crazy if it did. I hadn't realized it was unplugged though. Will look into this once keys have been sorted

Cheers
