Nothing to do with cars, but I just got in a laptop, managed to get it working, but the plastics are badly worn, there is the original white showing thro. Could I respray it?, with Halfords finest ?, anything special I need to do ?. I'm not after an original finish, if it looks fun and shines that's the main object. :y

if i have sprayed plastic in the past i have done the following....
first couple of coats are a light dust coat, just to get a good key to the surface, the following half a dozen coats have been done to build up the paint and protection.
Leave it for a day and then put another half a dozen coats on it, and then laquer if required

Hycote acrylic primer is usually very good for use on plastic, but as it says in the warning blurb test on an inconspicuous area first.
I have used it on plastic model kits for years with good results and IIRC halfords own brand paints are hycote so may be easier to get hold of.
Be careful of cellulose paints as they can melt plastic but after a good coat of hycote primer can be used with care.
As I said before test somewhereout of site before you commit to the final job.

Thanks for that, looks like a visit to Halfords is required. Only got to work out what colour to spray it Star Silver ?, Pearlescent black ?, or a few "chav" colours, Dayglow green ?. It is an AJP 5620P, which uses the same guts as some of the Alienware Area 51 laptops. All that was wrong was some liquid spilt on the keyboard, which had leaked onto the mainboard. I cleaned this off and it worked!. Wish all repairs were as easy!.

:)Light key with a scotchbrite pad, plastic primer, 2 coats of your chosen colour, leave o/nite, or at least for a while to go off, then finish with single pack lacquer. 2 pack lacquer gives a shinier finish but i'm not sure how laptops take to being baked!!! :y
